Jaw Gems is a band based out of Portland, Maine. They are known for bringing beat music, typically programmed and played on samplers, to a live band setting. The music skillfully entwines elements of hip-hop, funk, synth rock, neo-soul, jazz, and electronica. Members include Andrew Scherzer (bass), Tyler Quist (keyboards, sampler), Hassan Muhammad (keyboards), and DJ Moore (drums). HEATWEAVER is their second studio album release.

If you're looking for something to daze out to, then you should listen to the new record by Jaw Gems. HEATWEAVER sounds like a mad fusion of Flying Lotus, J Dilla, and Axiotronic. It's melodic, atmospheric and boasts its fair share of gripping moments. All the songs are instrumental, essential listening for those who like their music with heavy synths, tight rhythms, and a sensuous style. Although it could have benefited more by shaving a few tracks off the long track list, it's a very engaging, richly textured album that showcases Jaw Gems as the next big thing to come out of Portland. Standout tracks include "Peace Pipe," "Party Slave," "Beach Keeper," "Lead Sister," "Ohio," and "Studded."
