M83 is a band based out of Los Angeles, California led by Anthony Gonzalez. Junk is their seventh studio album and first without longtime vocalist and keyboardist Morgan Kibby. Guest contributors include Mai Lan, Beck and Susanne Sundfør.

Junk might have made for a mildly entertaining electro-pop release if it were only a six track EP. That's the number of songs out of the total fifteen I thought were a decent listen. Devoid of reverb effects, loud instruments, energy and Morgan Kirby, the new record, is a baffling mess that sees Gonzalez's artistic prowess wasted. Junk fails to recapture the atmosphere of 2011's Hurry Up, We're Dreaming or anything you would expect to hear from M83. Perhaps Well intentioned but poorly conceived. There is nothing much here to engage the listener or make them care, relate to or understand. Standout tracks include "Go (feat. Mai Lan)" and "Laser Gun (feat. Mai Lan)."
