How Many of the Beatles Are Still Alive

The Beatles are undoubtedly the best-known band ever. They performed more music throughout the 20th century than one might think.

They saw world success, performed a number of shows, and are now household names decades after. However, from the height of band members’ employment, a lot of time has elapsed. Then what about the Beatles actually alive?

How Many of the Beatles Are Still Alive

John Lennon died in 1980 outside his apartment in New York City

On the evening of 8 December 1980, in the archway of The Dakota, his house in New York City, English guitarist John Lennon, formerly of Beatles, was shot dead. He was 40 years old when Mark David Chapman, a follower of American Beatles who came from Hawaii, murdered him.

Chapman said he was furious about Lennon’s lifestyle and public comments, particularly his well-published claim that the Beatles “more popular than Jesus” and the lyrics of his songs “God” and “Imagine” Chapman also claimed that he was influenced by Holden Caulfield’s fictitious character from J. D. The Catcher in the Rye in Salinger’s book.

George Harrison died in 2001 of lung cancer

George Harrison was regarded during the reign of the band as the Beatles’ quieter. He wasn’t as famous as Lennon or Paul McCartney, but he was no less a significant band member.

After the division of the band in 1970, Harrison followed a solo career which eventually became quite popular. He published all stuff that critics adored include “All Things Must Pass”.

Harrison saw “My Sweet Lord” transform into a single success off the record. In his 50s, Harrison faced many forms of cancer.

According to the New York Times, he was hospitalized in 1998 for throat cancer, and soon afterwards for a brain and lung cancer. Ultimately, Harrison died of lung cancer in 2001. He died in Los Angeles at the age of 58.

The 78-year-old Ringo Starr stays in the UK

Sir Richard Starkey MBE, born in July 1940, best known as Ringo Starr, has gained international renown as a Beatles drummer in the 1960s, as an English guitarist, poet, songwriter, and actor.

Starr was impacted through adolescence by life-threatening disease and prolonged hospitalizations. Before he took an apprenticeship to a machinery maker in Liverpool, he kept a role briefly with British Rail.

He became involved in the British skiffle craze shortly after, and became passionate about this genre. In 1957, he co-founded the Eddie Clayton Skiffle Party, his first group, which won prestigious local reserves before American rock and roll succeeded fading in early 1958.

Starr was a part of another Liverpool group, Rory Storm and the Hurricanes when the Beatles first formed in 1960.

After a modest performance in Great Britain and Hamburg, he left the Hurricanes in August 1962 when he was invited to join the Beatles, replacing Pete Best.

Paul McCartney still makes appearances at 76 years old

Paul McCartney is perhaps today’s most renowned Beatle. He and Starr are the only two participants and while McCartney may not see the same fame he did in the 1960s, he still performs regularly today.

McCartney has subsequently switched out of the Beatles to other kinds of music; he accompanied Rihanna and Kanye West on their hit “FourFiveSeconds” in 2016, and played half-time at Super Bowl in 2005.

Today, McCartney is 76 and is already worldwide. He is the richest member of the band with a total net sum of $1.2 billion.

Bottom Line

Fans want to see Starr and McCartney and recreate Beatlemania’s golden days. While not every band member has had a long and fulfilling life, audiences remain optimistic that John Lennon’s and George Harrison’s songs will live forever.
